Success Story of NIEDO students as JEE Mains 2026 results declare four Qualifiers
Assam Rifles highlighted the achievement of students from NIEDO, Teliamura following the JEE Mains 2026 results declared on 24 April 2026.
Out of six students who appeared, four qualified for JEE Advanced, marking a significant academic milestone.
The success reflects the students’ dedication and the institute’s focus on preparing aspirants for competitive exams like IIT and NEET. Assam Rifles continues to support and motivate youth in Tripura through its educational outreach initiatives.
The Assam Rifles in Tripura functions primarily as a paramilitary force ensuring border security, conducting counterinsurgency operations, and maintaining internal security.
They also undertake civic action programs, including training local, underprivileged youth for careers in the armed forces and conducting disaster relief operations.
Key Roles and Examples of Assam Rifles in Tripura:
- Security and Counter Insurgency: The force maintains peace and stability, acting under the operational control of the Indian Army.
- Capacity Building & Training: In April 2026, Assam Rifles held multiagency security exercises at Agartala airport to strengthen security protocols.
- Youth Empowerment (Civic Action): They run training programs for underprivileged youth in Kumarghat and surrounding areas, providing free training to help them join the Indian Army, BSF, and Assam Rifles.
- Disaster Relief: Assam Rifles personnel are actively involved in rescue and relief operations during natural disasters in the state.
The myth behind Tripura:
- Unakoti, Tripura : The story behind the lost hill of faces …The name Tripura is rooted in Hindu mythology, translating to “three cities” or “three fortresses” (Tripura) constructed by the demon architect Mayasura for three Asura brothers—Tarakaksha, Kamalaksha, and Vidyunmali.
The myth involves Lord Shiva, as Tripurantaka, destroying these three golden, silver, and iron flying cities with a single arrow when they aligned, marking the victory of good over evil.
Key Mythological Legends:
- Destruction of Three Cities (Tripurasura): The demon Tarakasura’s three sons earned a boon from Brahma that they could only be destroyed if their three cities merged into one, which would only happen once every thousand years. Due to their tyranny, Shiva destroyed these cities, earning the title “Tripurari”.
- The Legend of King Tripur: According to the Rajmala (royal chronicle of Tripura), the kingdom’s name is derived from a cruel and arrogant, yet religious, ruler named King Tripur. He banned the worship of Shiva and oppressed his people, leading the citizens to pray to Shiva, who then killed the king.
- Connection to Goddess Tripura Sundari: Some interpretations connect the name to the goddess Tripura Sundari, the “beautiful woman of the three worlds”. The state is home to the Tripureswari temple, a significant Shakti Peeth where the right foot of Goddess Sati is believed to have fallen.
- The Land of Kirats: Ancient references, including the Mahabharata, refer to the region as the ‘Land of Kirats’, a land of tribal life that was considered inaccessible.
Insurgency in Tripura:
The insurgency in Tripura was an armed conflict which took place in the state of Tripura between India and several separatist rebel organisations. It was a part of the wider insurgency in Northeast India and was fueled by Tripuris.
Tripura, literally meaning “land adjoining water”, is located in the extreme southwest corner of the Northeast. Following India’s independence in 1947, Tripura acceded to the Indian Union in 1948 as a “C” category state.
It became a Union Territory in November 1956 and attained full statehood on 21 January 1972.
Tripura’s demography underwent a major change as a result of illegal migrants and refugees from former East Bengal and subsequently from Bangladesh. Tripuris were pushed to the hills and the politics and administration in the state became dominated by the Bengalispeaking and immigrants.
It was the particular reason which had created national consciousness among the local populations. The continuous neglect on the immigration issue had led to a direct confrontation between Indian nationalism and the newly created Tripuri nationalism.
The parallel rise of nationalism in the other states of Northeast India had further complicated the situation more, resulting in a deadly armed conflict between India and rebel groups thus, creating the insurgency on ethnic lines as a Tribal versus Bengali conflict.
The first militant outfit to form was Tripura National Volunteers (TNV). It was active until 1988. However, the most prominent ones were National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF).
These groups had various demands. NLFT wanted to establish an independent Tripura and ATTF wanted to finalise the Tripura merger agreement. However, all of them wished to remove Bangladeshis immigrants who had entered Tripura after 1950 despite their ideological differences.
Anti Bengali sentiments of Tripuri rebel groups had given birth to the United Bengali Liberation Front. The group wanted to protect Bengalis in Tripura from militants.
This group was supported by the Bengali dominated Communist Party which supplied arms and infrastructure.
Internal conflicts among them had divided NLFT into NLFT(B) led by Biswamohan Debbarma and NLFT(N) led by Nayanbasi Jamatia.
ATTF which was a right wing organisation of NLFT had become its own militant organisation led by Ranjit Debbarma.
Those groups had received the major blow when Biswamohan Debbarma, Nayanbasi Jamatia and Ranjit Debbarma were all arrested in their hideout camps in Bangladesh. It is estimated that some of those armed cadres are still present at their hideout camps at Chittagong Hill Tracts, Bangladesh.
You only ever have three things: 1) yourself, wellbeing and mindset 2) Your life network, resources and resourcefulness 3) Your reputation and goodwill. Treasure and tend the first. Value, support and build the second. And mindfully, wisely ensure that the third (your life current and savings account) is always in credit
The modernization and transformation:
The Indian Army and paramilitary forces, particularly the Assam Rifles, have played a transformative role in Tripura, shifting from intense counterinsurgency operations to active community development and youth empowerment, as of 2026. Their involvement has been instrumental in securing the border, fostering stability, and mentoring local youth for careers in the armed forces.
Key Aspects of the Army’s Role:
Insurgency to Stability: The Army and Assam Rifles played a crucial role in reducing insurgency, allowing for the restoration of law and order and the development of civil infrastructure.
Youth Empowerment & Education: The Assam Rifles has been actively mentoring underprivileged youth in areas like Kumarghat, conducting free coaching and physical training for recruitment into the army and paramilitary forces. They also assist in education, with initiatives resulting in the selection of over 500 students for premier engineering and medical exams (JEE/NEET).
Community Outreach & Security:
- Border Security & Vigilance: Amidst regional instability, a battlehardened battalion from the 1971 war was deployed in 2025 to monitor the border, with senior officials reviewing security in South Tripura.
- Community Engagement: The forces actively engage in social responsibility, including organizing medical camps, veterinary care for livestock (including Yaks), and environmental campaigns like tree planting.
- NCC Training: Assam Rifles has been training NCC cadets in Agartala to enhance leadership, discipline, and military skills among local students.
- Long Term Transformation: The continued efforts of the armed forces in Tripura have shifted the focus towards integrating the youth into the national mainstream and providing avenues for economic improvement.
As of late 2025 and early 2026, the Army’s role in Tripura remains focused on maintaining security, especially with the increased risk of unrest from across the border, and on strengthening bonds with the local populace.
Young generation of Tripura:
The young generation in Tripura represents a highly literate and ambitious demographic, comprising roughly 74% rural and 26% urban population. They are actively engaged in vocational training via the Tripura Skill Development Mission, yet face high unemployment (21.7%) and drug addiction challenges. The youth are increasingly pivotal in local politics, entrepreneurship, and rural development.
Key Aspects of Tripura’s Young Generation:
- Demographic & Education: With a high literacy rate and a strong rural base ( of tribal youth), the youth population is large and energetic, providing a significant potential “demographic dividend”.
- Employment & Challenges: While the government aims for a skilled workforce through initiatives like the Tripura Skill and Entrepreneurship Policy 2024, limited formal employment opportunities lead to high unemployment rates and youth migrating or facing limited career choices.
- Political & Social Action: Young people are heavily involved in grassroots leadership, particularly in the ADC and EADC areas, with figures like Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma calling for youthdriven reforms to “build a new Tiprasa society”.
- Sectoral Focus: The government is encouraging entrepreneurship in agriculture, bamboo processing, tea, and tourism to harness the skills of the youth.
- Health and Social Concerns: There is rising concern regarding drug addiction and HIV/AIDS among the youth, with calls for strict action to prevent the destruction of the future generation.
The state government, and local community, focus remains on converting this high energy and potential into economic productivity and social stability, particularly through improved, specialized skill education.
The NIEDO Centre in Teliamura:
The NIEDO Centre in Teliamura, Tripura, known as the “Sentinel Centre of Educational Excellence, Skilling & Awareness,” is a joint initiative by Assam Rifles, NIEDO, and Axis Bank. Established in December 2023 at the Teliamura Garrison, it provides free residential coaching for JEE and NEET to underprivileged students in the region.
Key details about the NIEDO center:
- Mission: Empower students from lower socioeconomic backgrounds with quality coaching to gain entry into elite engineering/medical colleges.
- Structure: It is a fully residential program providing training, soft skills, and mentoring.
- Performance: In April 2026, the center highlighted the success of students who cleared JEE Mains, with 4 out of 6 appearing students qualifying for JEE Advanced.
- Support & Training: The Radhanagar Battalion of Assam Rifles conducts mock tests and counseling sessions for NEET/JEE aspirants.
- Partnership: The MoU was signed by Assam Rifles, Axis Bank, and NIEDO (National Integrity and Educational Development Organisation), often attended by state officials.
This center is part of a broader effort to provide “compensatory education” and opportunities for marginalized communities in Tripura.
So as usual we come to the final lines: Whether you sweep the toilet of a school or you make clothes. Whether you take pictures of dancers or you are a fulltime house wife. Whether you are a village jester or the president of a company, never trivialize what you do. Your work, no matter how small you think it is, can make a difference in someone’s life. It all begins with you. It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it! Permit no man to make a mockery of you just because you may not be proficient in something. Remember you are gifted no matter how insignificant it may be, it’s your prized possession, value it! If you seek success, serve others. If you seek immortality, give. Serve or give your time, skills, talent or gift. In the end, what you leave behind are trials of the lives you changed and the hearts you touched.
