SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah informed the Legislative Assembly that Rs 3.80 crore has been released as Union Territory subsidy to 4,288 consumers of the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) and Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana.
Replying to a question raised by MLA Shakti Raj Parihar, the Chief Minister, who also holds the Power portfolio, said Rs 1.80 crore was disbursed to 2,053 beneficiaries under KPDCL, while Rs 2 crore was released to 2,235 consumers under JPDCL in line with Central Financial Assistance provisions.
He said the scheme is primarily funded through Central Financial Assistance provided by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, with an additional subsidy component contributed by the Union Territory administration.
Under the scheme, residential consumers installing rooftop solar systems receive Central assistance of Rs 33,000 per kW for the first 2 kW and Rs 19,800 per kW for the next 1 kW, with a maximum subsidy of Rs 85,800 for systems up to 3 kW. The UT government additionally provides Rs 3,000 per kW, taking the total subsidy up to Rs 94,800 for a 3 kW installation.
The Chief Minister added that delays in releasing the UT share are mainly due to verification of installations, scrutiny of documents, and integration with the national portal. He said the administration is working to streamline the process and assured that pending subsidy amounts will be released after completion of verification formalities. -(KL)
