Pollution Control Committee Shopian organised public hearing for eliciting opinions, viewpoints and suggestions of the locals and other stakeholders for environmental clearance of minor mineral mining project for Rambiara downstream here at Old Fruit Mandi Arhama Shopian on Today.

The public hearing was for a minor mineral mining project spread over in block Nos. 07 and 09 at Rambiara downstream, in terms of Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) notification, 2006 of Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Government of India.

The Environmental consultant representing the project proponent gave a detailed presentation on the project and made the audience aware about the benefits of scientific mining and environmental safeguards to be adopted in implementation of the project.

Speaking on the occasion, the Additional Deputy Commissioner, (ADC)Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Simnani was also the Chief Guest during the event said that the illegal extraction of Minerals including sand and bajri from river beds/nallahs across the district is banned and completely prohibited.
He said that who-so-ever is found involved in illegal extraction of minerals shall be brought to book and punished under law. He further said that FIRs shall also be lodged against the violators in this regard.

Officers of PCB also highlighted some preventive measures and steps to stop this illegal act.
Among others, DDC and BDC members, Assistant Commissioner Revenue, Shopian, Regional Director PCB, District Officer Pollution Control Board, Panchs, Sarpanchs and other officers and officials of PCB were also present.
