New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has significantly reduced the size of his convoy during recent domestic visits while ensuring all mandatory security arrangements under Special Protection Group (SPG) protocols remain intact, sources said on Tuesday.
According to sources, the reduction in the number of vehicles in the Prime Minister’s convoy was implemented during his recent visits to Gujarat and Assam following his address in Hyderabad.
Sources said that despite the reduction in convoy size, all crucial security measures continued as per SPG guidelines to ensure the Prime Minister’s safety and security.
In another key initiative, PM Modi has also directed officials to include Electric Vehicles (EVs) in his convoy wherever feasible without making any fresh purchases, sources added.
The move is being seen in line with the Prime Minister’s appeal for economic resilience and reduced dependence on imported fuel through the adoption of environmentally sustainable alternatives.
Addressing a gathering in Secunderabad recently, PM Modi said patriotism today is not limited to defending the country at the borders but also includes responsible behaviour in daily life.
“Patriotism is about fulfilling our duties towards the nation through responsible living,” the Prime Minister had said.
He urged citizens to reduce petrol and diesel consumption by using public transport, car-pooling and electric vehicles more frequently.
PM Modi also appealed to people to reduce edible oil consumption to lower import dependence and asked farmers to move towards natural farming by reducing the use of chemical fertilisers.
He said India spends huge foreign currency reserves on the import of edible oil and chemical fertilisers, stressing the need to protect both the economy and the environment through sustainable practices.(KNC)
