SRINAGAR: The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified three more institutions as “fake universities” and warned students, parents and teachers against taking admission in them, stating that any degrees or diplomas awarded by these entities will not be valid for higher education or government employment.
In an official notification, the UGC named National Backward Krushi Vidypeeth in Maharashtra, Sarva Bharatiya Shiksha Peeth in Karnataka, and the National Institute of Management Solution in Delhi as institutions operating in violation of the UGC Act, 1956.
The UGC said National Backward Krushi Vidypeeth, located at Tadwal in Solapur district of Maharashtra, has been awarding degrees illegally. It clarified that the institution is neither recognised under Section 2(f) or Section 3 of the UGC Act nor approved by the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) or any other statutory body.
Besides, Sarva Bharatiya Shiksha Peeth in Tumkur, Karnataka, was found to be awarding degrees in contravention of the UGC Act. The commission said the institution is not recognised by the UGC or approved by any statutory authority and is therefore not entitled to award any degree or diploma.
The UGC also stated that the National Institute of Management Solution, located in Janakpuri, New Delhi, is not recognised under the UGC Act and is not authorised to award degrees or admit students to undergraduate or postgraduate programmes on behalf of any university. It added that all degrees issued by the institute are invalid for higher studies and government jobs.
The commission cautioned that admission to such self-styled institutions could seriously jeopardise students’ careers and urged them to verify the recognition status of institutions before enrolling.
Earlier, the UGC had released a list of 22 institutions functioning without approval while falsely claiming university status. Delhi topped the list with 10 such institutions, followed by Uttar Pradesh with four. Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and West Bengal had two each, while Maharashtra and Puducherry had one each. -(KL)
