Srinagar: The Sport Climbing Wall at TFC, Nowgam Srinagar played host to a breath taking display of athleticism and determination as the Mountaineering Association of Jammu & Kashmir kickstarted the much-anticipated District Sport Climbing Championships for districts of Kashmir valley.
The event, which will take place over several days, will see climbers from many districts and beyond gather to demonstrate their skills on the challenging artificial climbing walls.
The championships, will be a celebration of both physical prowess and mental acuity, marked a significant moment for the growing sport climbing community in the region. As sport climbing makes its debut in the upcoming Olympics, interest in the sport has been on the rise, and the MAJK’s initiative aimed to encourage local talent to shine on the national and international stage.
The district championships are being held at the J&K Tourism’s state-of-the-art sport climbing wall. Climbers tackled routes that ranged in difficulty, demanding not only brute strength but also precise technique and quick decision-making.
The event featured various categories based on age and climbing experience, ensuring that climbers of all levels had an opportunity to compete and showcase their abilities.
“We are thrilled to have organized this championship to provide a platform for climbers in our region to showcase their talent and passion for sport climbing. This is a testament to our commitment to promoting adventure sports and outdoor activities,” said Syed Abdul Mohsin Joint Secretary of the Mountaineering Association of J&K.
On the first day of these championships the competition for District Pulwama & Shopian was conducted in which more than seventy participants both girls and boys from different clubs and schools took part. For Pulwama district Rutba Jan of Galbugh Pulwama secured Ist position, Zarka secured second & Toiba secured third position in the girls category, in boys junior Kafeel secured first position, Sariq Jave secured second position, Faisal secured 3rd position, in sub junior boys Mir Sibghatullah secured first, Zuhaib Ul Haq secured second and Azmat secured third position. For shopian district Arsalan secured first, Raqeeb secured 2nd and Sehran scured third position in sub junior category, Danish Hameed secured first, Ashish secured second, Shahzaib secured tired position in junior and in senior category Uzair secured first, Kifayat secured 2nd and Irfan Riyaz secured 3rd position.
At the prize distribution ceremony Mr Tariq Rashid Ghani President Chamber for Commerce & Industries Kashmir were the chief guest, Mr Tariq while speaking on the occasion encouraged the participants and wished them luck for their future endeavours he also hailed the members of Mountaineering Association of J&K for organizing such activities for younger generation. Speaking on the prize distribution ceremony Aqeel Ul Islam thanked the participants for their participants, he also thanked J&K Tourism for allowing the championships to be conducted at the Sport Climbing Wall TFC, Nowgam.
The event brought together a diverse group of climbers, from young enthusiasts eager to prove their mettle to seasoned athletes with a wealth of experience in the sport.
The championship is being sponsored by Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council. With its unique combination of athleticism and strategic thinking, sport climbing has the potential to captivate a wide audience and inspire more individuals to embrace an active lifestyle.
