SRINAGAR: Police in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district have booked an LPG distributor and seized 80 gas cylinders in connection with alleged illegal decanting of domestic LPG into commercial cylinders, officials said on Tuesday.

The action was initiated after Police Station Kakapora received specific inputs that a distributor, identified as Firdous Ahmad Dar, a resident of Hajibal, was allegedly involved in transferring gas from domestic cylinders into commercial ones for illegal profit.

Officials said the practice was being carried out in violation of established norms and posed serious safety risks, including the possibility of accidents during unauthorised handling of LPG.

Following the information, a case under FIR No. 34/26 was registered at Police Station Kakapora under relevant sections of law, and an investigation was launched.

During the investigation, police seized a total of 80 LPG cylinders linked to the alleged operation, including 35 domestic and 45 commercial cylinders, officials said.

Police stated that the seizure is part of ongoing efforts to curb illegal trade practices and ensure compliance with safety regulations in the storage and distribution of LPG.

Further investigation is underway to ascertain the full extent of the operation and identify any other individuals involved in the alleged illegal activity. -(KL)
