SHOPIAN: In a significant breakthrough, Shopian Police have arrested a long-time absconder who had been evading law enforcement for over three decades.
In a statement Shopian Police said that acting on sustained intelligence and consistent efforts, police apprehended Ab. Rashid Sheikh, son of Ab. Rehman Sheikh, a resident of Karewa Manloo, Shopian. The accused had been wanted in connection with FIR No. 160/1989 registered under Sections 379 RPC and 6 Forest Act. A warrant under Section 512 CrPC had also been issued against him by the Hon’ble Court.
According to police, the accused had been absconding since 1989 and had deliberately evaded arrest for nearly 36 years. His apprehension marks a major success in the district police’s sustained campaign to trace and bring long-term absconders to justice.
The accused has been produced before the Hon’ble Court, Shopian, for further legal proceedings.
