SHOPIAN: Continuing its sustained drive against drug trafficking, Shopian Police have arrested a drug peddler and recovered a substantial quantity of contraband from his possession.

According to an official statement, during routine naka checking at Manihal Crossing in Imamsahib, a police party from Police Station Imamsahib noticed an individual moving under suspicious circumstances. Acting swiftly, the team apprehended the suspect.

Upon search, police recovered approximately 4.340 kilograms of a charas-like substance from his possession. The accused has been identified as Gowhar Ahmad Wani, a resident of DK Pora in Shopian district.

In this regard, a case under FIR No. 24/2026 has been registered at Police Station Imamsahib under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Police officials stated that further investigation is underway to establish both forward and backward linkages and to dismantle the broader drug network involved.
