Shopian: The District Administration Shopian, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar, has announced a comprehensive verification drive for ration cards to enhance transparency and fairness in the public distribution system. The initiative aims to ensure that only deserving families benefit under the Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) and Below Poverty Line (BPL) categories.

The Deputy Commissioner emphasized the need to eliminate ineligible beneficiaries to plug loopholes in the allocation process. “This exercise is a step toward promoting inclusivity and ensuring that the benefits of the schemes reach the rightful beneficiaries”, DC Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar said.

As part of the drive, the district administration has appealed to ineligible persons or families holding BPL or AAY ration cards to voluntarily surrender them. “In case ineligible individuals are identified during the verification process, legal action, including FIRs for theft of government property and recovery, will be initiated,” the Deputy Commissioner warned.

The administration will also use this opportunity to identify deserving families currently excluded from the schemes. These families will be incorporated into the AAY and BPL categories, ensuring they receive the necessary support for their sustenance.

The district administration has urged the public to cooperate with the verification process, emphasizing that voluntary compliance will be appreciated. This initiative is expected to strengthen the public distribution system and uphold the principles of equity and justice in Shopian.
