DC Shopian Inspects Multiple Villages, Reviews Measures to Curb Illegal Mining

Shopian: Shopian district administration, led by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar, has intensified efforts to curb illegal mining activities in the region. During an overnight inspection in Heff village, authorities seized two vehicles involved in the unauthorized excavation of minor minerals.

Deputy Commissioner visited Heff and Darazpora villages to review the ongoing enforcement measures against illegal mining. Accompanied by the Additional District Development Commissioner, Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz, and other district officers from enforcement agencies, the DC conducted a thorough on-ground assessment of the situation.

Deputy Commissioner emphasized the district’s commitment to preserving natural resources and ensuring sustainable mining practices in accordance with established norms. He urged the public to report any illegal mining activities to the dedicated District Control Room and assured strict action against violators.

To further strengthen law enforcement, the DC directed the formation of a joint team of civil and police officers to conduct regular inspections and take prompt action against illegal mining in the district.

During his visit, the DC also addressed local concerns regarding traffic congestion in the Turkwangan area at Darazpora due to road bottlenecks. He ordered the immediate removal of encroachments in Darazpora to facilitate smooth traffic movement, particularly important during the ongoing apple harvesting season.

This visit reflects the administration’s proactive approach towards tackling illegal mining and ensuring the safety and well-being of the district’s residents.
