Pulwama: A seminar to observe International Day of Peace was held at the auditorium of Government Degree College here at South Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Wednesday.

The seminar was organised by a non-government organisation, Kashmakash Trust in collaboration with Solace International School Bunora and  Government Degree College Pulwama.

Bhat Musadiq Reyaz, founder of Kashmakash Trust, told that there is lot of positivity in Pulwama which needs to be reflected in a proper way.

“The observation of International Day of Peace by youth of Pulwama is a step in this direction”, Bhat said, adding that it sends a message that the district is as peace loving place as any other part of the country.

“As youth of this place we have a responsibility to work for peace building and change the perception people have about Pulwama”, he said, adding that youth of Pulwama are doing fairly well in sports, education and business.

He added that many scholars from Pulwama are working in different university in research, teaching and biotechnology.

The one day seminar witnessed speeches by eminent scholars and educationists from the district which was followed by an interschool debate  and a signature campaign.

At the onset of the seminar, an oath was administered among the participants that they will contribute in peace building at their individual level, in their houses, in their neighbourhood, in their UT and the country.

Chief Education Officer Pulwama Nazir Ahmad Reshi told that peace is an abstract and multidimensional concept.

“We can help in building peace with ourselves and in the society if we content with what we have, we can’t maintain it with amenities of comfort and pleasure”, he said, adding that peace is to be looked inside.

“You have to have right thinking for achieving peace of mind and soul”, he said.

He stressed on limiting wants and desires for minimising internal as well as external conflicts.

Other speakers who talked on the occasion include DSP headquarter Showket Ahmad Wani, Advocate Zahid Hussain,  Rouf Ahmad, a Government teacher, Javid Rahim Bhat, DDC member, Professor Ramzan and Saleem Malik.

Principal GDC Pulwama, Farooq Ahmad Andrabi, served as chairman and Mir Waseem, Chairman Solace International School was guest of honour.
