SRINAGAR: In a major step against drug trafficking, police in South Kashmir’s  Anantnag have attached properties worth Rs 1.5 crore under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. This action forms part of their ongoing campaign to combat the drug menace in the region.

According to a police statement, a single-story residential house worth   Rs 80 lakh, owned by Afroz Ahmad Bhat, son of Gh Hassan of Azam Khan Mohalla, Khreibal, was seized by Police Station Mattan. Bhat, described as a habitual offender, is implicated in multiple NDPS cases related to the illegal narcotics trade.

Additionally, Police Station Srigufwara attached three commercial shops valued at Rs 70 lakh. These shops belong to Peer Asif Ahmad Shah and Peer Towseef Ahmad Shah, sons of Abdul Rashid Shah, residents of K Kalan, Srigufwara. Both individuals are under investigation for their roles in narcotics-related offences.

Anantnag Police emphasised their commitment to eradicating drug abuse and dismantling networks involved in the trade. They stressed that the use of NDPS Act provisions to seize properties linked to criminal activity acts as a strong deterrent against the illegal drug trade. Police reiterated their resolve to create a drug-free society through continued strict measures.
