SHOPIAN: In a swift and coordinated operation, Shopian Police successfully rescued an abducted minor girl within hours of her kidnapping from the Chitragam area of Zainapora and apprehended the accused involved.
The incident came to light after the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Zainapora received a WhatsApp complaint from a resident of Chitragam, reporting that his 11-year-old sister had gone missing from her home around 2 p.m. Acting promptly, police registered e-FIR No. 91/2025 under Section 137(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and launched an intensive investigation.
Utilising technical surveillance and swift field action, the police traced the girl to District Kulgam, where she was found in the company of the accused, identified as Showkat Ahmad Sheikh, 20, a resident of Gund Chal, Kulgam. The girl was safely recovered and reunited with her family, while the accused was taken into custody. Legal formalities have been completed, and further investigation is underway.
Commending the prompt action of the police team, SSP Shopian Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary (JKPS) urged parents and guardians to remain alert about the movements and online activities of their children.
