SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir is gearing up for Parliamentary elections in five phases starting April 19, with a focus on security measures to ensure smooth conduct.
Additional police companies from various battalions, along with Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), will be deployed to the Kashmir valley and border districts like Rajouri and Poonch, Daily Excelsior reported on Tuesday.
These efforts as per officials aim to bolster security against potential militant activities that could disrupt the electoral process.
The rotation of CAPF companies between constituencies and advanced deployment strategies are being implemented to maintain a secure environment throughout the voting phases.
With 635 paramilitary companies assigned to Jammu and Kashmir and 57 in Ladakh, security arrangements are being prioritized given the region’s history of being targeted by militant outfits.
The BJP, eyeing a third consecutive term in constituencies like Udhampur and Jammu, is also focusing on the Anantnag-Poonch-Rajouri seat, which recently saw Pahari voters conferred Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
While BJP and People’s Conference have announced candidates, other major parties like NC and Congress are yet to finalize their contenders.
