Pursue one great decisive aim with force and determination. — Carl von Clausewitz

Indecision steals many years from many people who wish they’d just had the courage to leap

The most difficult thing is the decision to act, the rest is merely tenacity…..I learnt it the hard way!

When Boundaries of Humanity Are Crossed, Response Is Decisive: India Stands United”: Army’s Strong Message on Op Sindoor Anniversary!

The Indian Army conveyed a strong message ahead of the anniversary of the Pahalgam terror attack, stating that any breach of humanity invites a decisive response and reaffirming that India stands united.

In a post on social media, , the ADG PI said: “When boundaries of humanity are crossed, the response is decisive. Justice is served. India stands united.”

An accompanying poster read: “Some boundaries should never be crossed. India does not forget.”

The statement comes a day before the anniversary of the April 22, 2025 terror attack in Baisaran, Pahalgam, where terrorists targeted tourists, killing 26 people, including 25 tourists and one pony ride operator.

In the aftermath of the attack, India conducted retaliatory strikes on terror launch pads across the border on May 7 under “Operation Sindoor,” which continued for three days. The operation was followed by a ceasefire announcement on May 11 at 5 PM.

The Tragedy:

The tragic events in Pahalgam on April 22, 2025, which preceded India’s retaliatory Operation Sindoor, involved a brutal terror attack in the Baisaran Valley that resulted in the deaths of 26 tourists and one local guide. The attack was characterized by targeted killings based on religion, with terrorists separating tourists and asking them to recite the Islamic kalima to identify nonMuslims.

Here are the specific stories and harrowing details of the tragedy:

  • Targeted Killings and Religious Identification: Militants, reportedly from Pakistanbacked groups, singled out Hindu and Christian tourists. Many men were shot at pointblank range in front of their families.
  • The Defining Image of Tragedy: Himanshi Narwal’s image, sitting beside her husband’s body with a crestfallen face, became a symbol of the massacre. Her husband was shot three times in the neck, chest, and thigh after being identified as a Hindu.
  • A Newlywed Couple’s Nightmare: Newlyweds from Pune had their lives shattered in under an hour. The husband was killed instantly, leaving his new wife to deal with the trauma of seeing her husband murdered shortly after their wedding.
  • Bravery of a Local Operator: Syed Adil Hussain Shah, a local Muslim pony ride operator and sole breadwinner, was killed while attempting to disarm one of the terrorists to protect the tourists he was guiding.
  • Family Survivals and Trauma: Prasant Satapathy from Odisha was among the 26 victims. His family spoke of their horror as they listened to his final moments over the phone.
  • The “Identify by Religion” Horror: Survivors reported that militants asked victims “Hindu hai, muslim hai?” before shooting them. A Bengali professor from Assam was able to escape after he was able to recite the Islamic kalima.
  • The Terrorist’s Profile: Survivors noted that some of the perpetrators appeared to be around 15 years old.
  • A Lucky Escape: An 11member family from Kerala avoided the attack because they had stopped to reorder lunch, delaying their arrival at the fatal Baisaran site.
  • The attack, which killed 25 tourists and one local, was described as the deadliest civilian attack in India since 2008.

Swift and decisive:

Operation Sindoor was a swift, highprecision military operation launched by the Indian Armed Forces in May 2025 as a retaliatory strike against Pakistanbased terror infrastructure. Triggered by a terror attack in Pahalgam, the operation targeted nine terrorist camps, aiming to punish sponsors of terrorism with calculated, nonescalatory force, often termed a “noncontact war”………Major’s Diary!

Key aspects of Operation Sindoor included:

  • Targeted Retaliation: Initiated following a terror attack on April 22, 2025, that killed 26 civilians, Indian forces targeted terror training camps in Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir (PoK).
  • Precision and Success: The operation resulted in the killing of over 100 terrorists, trainers, and handlers from groups like JaisheMohammed and LashkareTaiba without suffering any Indian soldiers’ casualties.

  • TriService Synergy: The operation saw immense coordination among the Indian Army, Air Force, and Navy, with the navy strengthening its position in the North Arabian Sea to demonstrate naval superiority.
  • Strategic Outcome: Following heavy damage to its air defense and radars, Pakistan halted its actions after India launched intense strikes around 10th May 2025, with India establishing a “new doctrine” that terrorist attacks will lead to decisive retaliation.
  • As stated by Indian officials, Operation Sindoor was about dismantling the “terror nurseries” and establishing that India will act decisively to safeguard its national interests without engaging in fullscale war.
  • Operation Sindoor was a series of precision missile and air strikes conducted by the Indian Armed Forces in May 2025, significantly decimating terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistanoccupied Jammu & Kashmir (PoK). Launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack, the operation targeted nine key terror camps, neutralized highprofile terrorists, and hit terrorlinked infrastructure without targeting Pakistani military facilities.

Key Details of Operation Sindoor:

  • Context: Initiated after a terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, on April 22, 2025, which resulted in the deaths of 28 civilians.
  • Action: Starting May 6, 2025, India launched strikes against LashkareTaiba (LeT), JaisheMohammed (JeM), and Hizbul Mujahideen (HuM) targets in areas such as Muzaffarabad, Kotli, and Bahawalpur.
  • Objectives: The primary goals were to dismantle terror networks, deter further attacks, and protect national sovereignty.
  • Impact: Reports suggest that over 100 terrorists were killed, and multiple highvalue targets were eliminated.
  • Strategy: The Indian government characterized the operation as “focused, measured, and nonescalatory,” focusing solely on dismantling terror machinery.

The name “Sindoor” (vermilion) symbolizes the bloodshed and the quest for justice for the victims of the Pahalgam attack.

A technology driven action:

Operation Sindoor (May 2025) was a landmark, technologydriven military action, showcasing India’s shift toward AIpowered warfare, indigenous systems, and precision strikes. When you cross limits of decency then face the music also!

When boundaries or barriers of humanity are crossed, a decisive response is considered essential to serve justice, uphold international law, and prevent further atrocities.

Key Perspectives on Decisive Response

  • National Security and Retaliation: In response to severe attacks against civilians, nations may adopt a decisive posture, including military or operational action aimed at targeting terror infrastructure to uphold sovereignty and prevent recurrence.
  • International Law and Humanitarianism: When crimes against humanity occur—defined as systematic attacks against civilians (e.g., murder, torture, or deportation)—the international community, through mechanisms like the UN or International Criminal Court (ICC), is urged to take immediate, firm, and effective measures.
  • Responsibility to Protect (R2P): The global community has a responsibility to protect populations from genocide, war crimes, and ethnic cleansing, necessitating action that goes beyond mere rhetoric to ensure accountability.
  • Proportionality and Impartiality: While responses must be strong, international humanitarian principles emphasize proportionality to avoid unnecessary collateral damage and ensure aid is delivered according to need.

Elements of a Decisive Response

  • Accountability: Ensuring those responsible for atrocities face legal consequences, often through international tribunals.
  • Coordinated Action: Utilizing a mix of diplomatic, economic, and securitybased strategies rather than isolated actions.
  • Swift Intervention: Acting quickly on early warning signs of atrocities to stop the escalation of violence.
  • This principled approach seeks to restore order and ensure that fundamental human dignity is upheld in the face of mass violence.
  • The final lines: In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing. The worst thing you can do is nothing. The cure for most obstacles is – be decisive. There’s no wrong time to make the right decision. Not making a decision means forgoing an opportunity. “Be decisive: be prepared to take big decisions… the biggest risk is not taking a decision at all, or taking it too late….!
