SRINAGAR: Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh, father of incarcerated Baramulla MP Er Rashid, passed away today, AIP Chief Spokesperson Inam Un Nabi announced.
In a handout, the AIP spokesman describing the deceased as a veteran teacher and a man of great integrity, Inam Un Nabi said Haji Khazir Mohammad Sheikh was widely respected for his lifelong commitment to education, ethics, and community service. He remained a steadfast source of support for Er Rashid throughout his political career.
Inam Un Nabi urged the Government of India to grant MP Er Rashid immediate release on humanitarian grounds to allow him to attend his father’s last rites. “It is a son’s basic right to bid farewell to his father. No political difference should come in the way of human compassion at such a time,” he said.
He added that Haji Khazir Sheikh’s demise is a profound loss for the family, his former students, and admirers across Jammu and Kashmir. The AIP leadership and workers stand with the bereaved family in this moment of grief, reads the statement.(GNS)
