SRIINAGAR: The Meteorological Department has issued a fresh warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall across parts of Jammu Division from August 12 to 15, urging residents to remain alert due to the risk of flash floods, landslides, and mudslides in vulnerable areas.
In the past 24 hours, several areas have recorded extremely heavy rainfall — Reasi 284 mm, Katra 204 mm, Kathua 199 mm, Udhampur 166 mm, Samba 102 mm, and Jammu 96 mm — causing water logging in low-lying areas and swelling of rivers and streams.
Forecast Highlights:
Aug 12–15: Generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain/thundershowers at many places. Heavy to very heavy rain likely at isolated to scattered locations in Reasi, Udhampur, Jammu, Samba, Kathua, Doda, and Rajouri, mainly during night and early morning hours. Kashmir Division may witness moderate showers with brief intense spells and gusty winds.
Aug 16–17: Hot and humid conditions expected, with brief showers possible in a few areas.
Aug 18–19: Another spell of light to moderate rainfall likely at many places, with heavy rain in parts of Jammu Division.
Advisory:
Authorities have warned of possible flash floods and shooting stones in hilly areas. Residents are advised to stay away from water bodies, river embankments, and streams. The Met Department has also cautioned about thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in some places.
