Shopian: District administration Shopian is receiving widespread praise for its tireless and unparalleled efforts in transforming the district, with residents lauding the administration for working round the clock to improve the overall infrastructure and services.
On September 19, a bridge at Dachnoo Hirpora collapsed under heavy load, posing significant challenges for local commuters. However, in a swift response, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Shopian, Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar, along with other officials, visited the site the same day to assess the situation. Under his directive, the authorities ensured that the bridge was repaired and made operational within just six days — a feat that earned high praise from the local community.
Waseem Wani, a resident of Hirpora, expressed his appreciation for the quick and efficient response. “We commend the District Administration for their swift action. We hope they continue working with this level of dedication in the future. We’ve had many DCs in the past, but the current one truly stands out for his hard work on behalf of the people of Shopian.”
This wasn’t the first time the administration faced such a challenge. Earlier this year, on April 4, a bridge at Sheikhpora-Rampora (Trenz) also collapsed. The then DC Fazlul Haseeb, who has since been transferred, visited the site and assured locals that the bridge would be rebuilt within ten days.
Unfortunately, months passed without progress, forcing residents to cross the Rambi Aara river—a challenging and hazardous route—until September.
The situation changed when DC Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar assumed office. After locals raised concerns about the collapsed Sheikhpora-Rampora bridge on September 26, the new DC visited the site the very next day to assess the damage. By September 30, he had assured the community that the bridge would be restored within 10 days. True to his word, the bridge was fully operational by October 9.
Locals of the area expressed their gratitude for the administration’s hard work. “We endured significant hardships from April to September, but we are thankful to DC Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar for restoring the bridge so efficiently,” said a resident.
Many residents share the sentiment that Shopian is on the path to significant development under the leadership of DC Dar.
“InshAllah, Shopian will continue to soar to new heights,” said a hopeful local.
