SHOPIAN: In a significant initiative to promote environmental conservation and sustainable tourism, the Himalayan Care Foundation, in collaboration with JKCIP-IFAD and the Wildlife Department, organized a one-day Climate Change Awareness Program and Cleanliness Drive at the scenic tourist destination of Dubjan in south Kashmir’s Shopian district.

The programme aimed to create awareness among local residents and tourists about the importance of protecting ecologically sensitive areas and maintaining cleanliness at popular tourist destinations.

MLA Shopian, Advocate Shabir Ahmad Kullay, attended the event as the chief guest. Addressing participants, he stressed the urgent need to safeguard the environment and warned of the long-term consequences of environmental degradation if immediate action is not taken.

He appealed to visitors to keep tourist destinations free from polythene, dispose of waste only in designated dustbins, and avoid practices such as open urination that affect the cleanliness and ecological balance of the area.

Chief Agriculture Officer Shopian, Shahnawaz Ahmad, also participated in the programme and said the initiative was aimed at spreading awareness about environmental responsibility and encouraging people to preserve the natural beauty of tourist spots.

He urged tourists and local residents alike to enjoy these destinations responsibly and ensure they remain clean for future generations.

The awareness campaign and cleanliness drive were coordinated by the Himalayan Care Foundation team, led by Chairman Zubair Ahmad Malik, Secretary Ufri Jan, and resource person Sana, who actively supervised the awareness sessions and clean-up activities.

The programme concluded with a collective pledge by participants to promote eco-friendly practices and contribute towards preserving Shopian’s natural and tourist heritage.
