Shopian: In a decisive effort to curb child labor in the region, the Child Welfare Committee Shopian, in collaboration with local police and various NGOs, launched a special rescue drive today, successfully saving six children.
The operation, conducted across different locations in Shopian town, aimed to identify and rescue minors below the age of 18 who were found working in shops, workshops, and other establishments. This initiative is part of a larger mission to safeguard vulnerable children and enforce child labor laws in the area.
The rescued children were immediately placed under protective care, where they will receive essential rehabilitation and support. This rescue marks a significant step in protecting children from exploitation, and the operation is expected to expand to other areas where violations may be occurring.
Farooq Ahmad, Chairman of the Child Welfare Committee, said, “We are committed to ensuring the protection of children and enforcing strict measures against child labor. Our teams are actively identifying locations where minors are being employed, and we will continue these efforts in the coming days.”
“We are urging the public to report any suspected cases of child labor to ensure every child has access to education and a secure upbringing”, he said.
“This special drive is just the beginning, as local teams continue to monitor and act against child labor practices in Shopian and its surrounding areas”, he further added.
