SHOPIAN: A minor girl from a nomadic family died after coming under a wooden log while playing in the Trenz area of south Kashmir’s Shopian district on Tuesday, marking the third such incident involving children in the area in recent days.
The deceased has been identified as Mahira Jan, daughter of Babu Khan, a resident of Rajouri who was presently staying at Baba Khider Trenz.
The incident occurred when the child was playing near stacked logs and accidentally came under one of them, resulting in her death, according to available information.
The latest tragedy comes days after two separate incidents in Shopian in which toddlers drowned, raising concerns over child safety in the region.
The back-to-back incidents involving children have triggered concern among locals, who said greater awareness and precautionary measures are needed to prevent such mishaps. [KNT]
