Srinagar: The University of Kashmir continues to struggle with administrative instability as key positions remain assigned on an ad-hoc basis, raising concerns over governance and efficiency.

In a recent reshuffle, Registrar Prof. Naseer Iqbal has been given the additional charge of Director Kupwara Campus, replacing Prof. Shamim Ahmad Shah. Similarly, Prof. Parvez Ahmad, Head of the Geography and Disaster Management Department, has been asked to function as Dean Student Welfare.

The continued reliance on additional charges instead of permanent appointments has sparked criticism, with officials questioning the effectiveness of such a system.

In a surprising move, a faculty member from South Campus Anantnag has been given the additional charge of the NewGen IEDC Centre at the main campus, raising doubts over role-specific efficiency.

An official, speaking on condition of anonymity, alleged that the recent orders were issued in the absence of the Registrar, suggesting internal maneuvering by certain officers to secure key positions.

“When the system is disorganized at the top, efficiency at the ground level cannot be expected,” the official said. (KDC)
