SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a nowcast warning, forecasting a spell of rain and thundershowers over many parts of the Kashmir Valley and a few places in the Jammu division during the next 3–5 hours.
According to the weather department, some areas may experience brief but intense showers accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, gusty winds and hailstorms.
The MET Centre has specifically warned of a possibility of hailstorms in Shopian, Kulgam, Kupwara, Handwara, and parts of Ganderbal and Budgam districts over the next 2–3 hours.
Department further advised residents to remain indoors during thunderstorms and lightning activity and to stay away from loose structures, electric poles, overhead wires and old trees.
As a precautionary measure, boating and shikara services in Dal Lake and surrounding areas, as well as other water bodies, have been advised to remain suspended during the next few hours.
