SRINAGAR: A woman in Ahmedabad’s Satellite locality has been arrested for allegedly throwing acid on her husband after first pouring boiling water on him, following suspicions of infidelity, police said on Monday, according to The New Indian Express.
The accused, identified as Damayanti, attacked her husband Ronak around 9 p.m. on Sunday while he was asleep. Police said Ronak sustained severe burns to his lower body and was admitted to hospital, where he later filed a formal complaint.
According to investigators, the couple had been married for two years after divorcing their previous partners. However, tensions grew when Damayanti began suspecting Ronak of rekindling ties with his former wife. Despite earlier counselling sessions at Vejalpur police station, she continued to doubt his fidelity.
In what police described as a premeditated act, Damayanti allegedly poured hot water and then acid on Ronak during a late-night quarrel. She was arrested soon after the incident.
“The accused frequently quarrelled with her husband over unfounded suspicion. On Sunday night, she poured boiling water followed by acid, causing serious injuries,” said Ahmedabad ACP SN Patel as quoted by The New Indian Express.
Meanwhile, a case has been registered under Sections 124(1) and 296 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Police are investigating whether the acid was procured in advance, indicating deliberate intent rather than a crime of passion. -(KL)
