SRINAGAR: A prolonged spell of unsettled weather is expected across Jammu and Kashmir from January 16 onwards, with widespread cloud cover, intermittent rain and snowfall, and the possibility of moderate to heavy precipitation in some regions, according to the latest weather forecast.

MeT department said that today, January 15, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy, particularly towards the evening hours. Conditions are likely to deteriorate on January 16, with general cloudiness accompanied by light rain or snowfall at scattered places across the Union Territory.

The weather is forecast to remain partly to generally cloudy on January 17 and 18, with light snowfall over isolated higher reaches, especially in mountainous areas. Another spell of unsettled weather is expected during January 19 and 20, when light rain or snow may occur at scattered to fairly widespread places. During this period, some higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir may receive moderate snowfall.

On January 21, the weather is likely to improve slightly, remaining partly to generally cloudy, with light snowfall restricted to isolated higher reaches.

However, a significant wet spell is forecast between January 22 and 24, during which generally cloudy conditions with light to moderate rain or snowfall are expected at most places. Notably, there is a possibility of moderate to heavy rain or snowfall over a few districts of the Chenab Valley, Udampur, Reasi, and South Kashmir during January 23 and 24. This spell may impact daily life, traffic movement, and tourism activities in vulnerable areas.

The weather is expected to turn relatively calmer on January 25 and 26, with partly cloudy skies and light rain or snowfall at isolated to scattered places.

Advisory Issued

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has issued an advisory warning of moderate to dense fog over the plains of Jammu division, which is likely to continue for the next two days, potentially affecting visibility during early morning and late-night hours.

Travelers and commuters have been advised to plan their journeys carefully, especially during the wet spell expected on January 23 and 24, and to strictly follow traffic and administrative advisories to avoid inconvenience and ensure safety.
