SRINAGAR: Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Tuesday announced the establishment of a Doppler Weather Radar in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir to enhance weather forecasting capabilities and strengthen disaster preparedness in the region.
The minister said the proposed radar system will enable accurate and real-time monitoring of weather conditions, significantly improving early warning systems and supporting disaster management efforts in vulnerable areas.
Singh made the announcement while chairing a meeting of the District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) at the DC Office Complex in Doda. The meeting was attended by Member of Parliament Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo, MLA Doda West Shakti Raj Parihar, and senior district officials. The session focused on reviewing the implementation and progress of Centrally Sponsored Schemes (CSS) and major infrastructure projects in the district.
During the meeting, the Union Minister also assessed the development of infrastructure linked to the medicinal and aromatic plants sector. He directed that office space be provided to local entrepreneurs under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model at the High Altitude Medicine Centre in Bhaderwah, subject to necessary approvals from the Ministry of AYUSH in coordination with the district administration.
Emphasising efficient governance, Singh called for optimal utilisation of resources, removal of bottlenecks, and improved inter-departmental coordination. He stressed the need for close collaboration with public representatives to ensure effective last-mile delivery of services.
The minister also reviewed the progress of key road projects and inaugurated three roads constructed under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). These include the Thathri–Chira road (19 km) built at a cost of Rs 928.40 lakh, the Goila Morh–Trankal road (5 km), and the Puneja–Bhalara road (9 km).
