A top Lashkar-e-Toiba militant commander and his associate were killed in a gunfight in the woods of Rajouri district.
Local News Agency Kashmir Scroll quoted officials as saying that a top commander of Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), identified as Qari, and his associate were killed in the two-day-long gunfight.
The officer said that Qari was active in Rajouri district along with his group for the last year and was believed to be the mastermind of the Dangri and Kandi attacks.
The officer further revealed that the slain militant commander was sent to revive terrorism in the region, and IEDs handling experts, operating and hiding from caves, and a trained sniper.
The officer further said that incriminating materials, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from the slain Militants.
The operation in the Bajimaal area of Kalakote in Rajouri was launched on Wednesday after security forces received input about the presence of militants in the area.
In the two-day-long anti-militancy operation, four army soldiers, including two officers, were killed.
