SRINAGAR — A complete shutdown was observed in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday over the derogatory remarks made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) spokespersons against the Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).
Reports reaching to Kashmir Independent Media Service – KIMS said that all shops and business establishments were closed in the city, besides traffic was not visible on roads.
The derogatory remarks were made by Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Spokespersons Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal who were later removed from the party after backlash and condemnation from Gulf and other countries over the comments made by them against Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ).
Report said that the curfew has been imposed in Jammu regions Bhaderwah, Kishtwar and Ramban districts as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order.
The authorities have also clamped down internet services in Srinagar and in these districts of Chenab valley as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile locals carried out a protest march at Lal Chowk, the heart of Srinagar city against the derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad (ﷺ). The protesters were demanding the stringent punishment against the BJP spokespersons.
