Srinagar: As the Muslim world gears up to welcome the holy month of Ramadan 2024, the authorities in Saudia Arabia are not very optimistic to witness the birth of a crescent in the region on Sunday evening.

While independent reports suggested that the Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia has officially asked the residents to look for the possibility of sighting of the crescent of the holy month of Ramadan today (Sunday | March 20, 2024), corresponding to 29 Shaban 1445 A.H, it was however added that witnessing of the crescent is unlikely and the month of fasting is likely to start from March 12, 2024 across the Gulf countries.

Back home, a scholarly committee led by Grand Mufti J&K, Mufti Nasir-ul-Islam Farooqi, is all set to start the once in a while quest to look for the crescent of the holy month of Ramadan.

Notably, it can’t even be ruled that the South Asian countries which include; Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Iran, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka may see a simultaneous onset of the fasting month with the Saudi Arabia.
