Srinagar: As Snowfall continues across Kashmir valley on saturday normal life remains disrupted, while heavy snowfall is being reported across South Kashmir.
Meteorological department said that rain and snowfall is expected to continue till this afternoon.
Reports said that heavy snowfall was reported in South Kashmir where 2.5 Feet has been reported from DH pora Kulgam, 1.5 feet in Main town Anantnag, 2 feet reported in Main town Kulgam, 2 feet reported in Qazigund, 1.7 feet in Khudwani, 1.5 feet in main town Shopian, 1.6 feet in Hakura Anantnag, 1.8 feet in Achabal, 1 feet Pampore, 1.5 feet Bejbehara, 1.5 feet in Sallar
Meanwhile, Kashmir University and Cluster University Srinagar postponed all exams scheduled today.
KU Assistant Controller exams in a notification said, In view of the inclement weather condition, all examinations of University of Kashmir scheduled to be held on 28.12.2024 stand postponed.
It further stated that, fresh dates for the postponed papers shall be notified separately, it reads.
In a separate notification issued by Controller Examinations, Cluster University Srinagar reads, all the examinations of Cluster University Srinagar scheduled on 28-12-2024 are hereby postponed due to inclement weather conditions. Fresh dates for postponed papers shall be notified separately, it reads.
However, an official from IGNOU said that exams scheduled for today are as per schedule, because exams through IGNOU are being conducted across the country, of which postponed is not possible, he said.
An official from the Traffic department said that, Jammu-Srinagar NHW is blocked due to snow accumulation around the NAVYUG Tunnel. Moreover, Mughal road/Sinthan road/Sonamarg-Kargil road/ Bhaderwah-Chamba road are also blocked due to snow accumulation. Commuters are advised to avoid journeys till the weather improves and the road is being cleared, he said.
An official said that the train service suspended in Kashmir valley, suspension of train service, a precautionary measure, is expected to last until at least till Saturday afternoon. To address the situation, he said that a WDM3 locomotive fitted with a snow cutter will be deployed to clear the tracks under the guidance of the permanent way (pway) department. He added that train operations would resume only after assessing track conditions.
Director Srinagar Airport said that flight operations at Srinagar Airport have been put on hold, we are monitoring weather conditions and if needed will take decision on suspension of operation after 10am, he said. -(JKNS)
