SHOPIAN: Jammu and Kashmir Police in Shopian conducted a district wide verification drive to check the use of unauthorized Virtual Private Network services and identified 15 individuals during the exercise.

The drive was carried out in compliance with prohibitory orders in force that restrict the use of unauthorized VPNs. The action aimed to curb the misuse of encrypted digital platforms that may pose risks to public safety and security.

Police officials said technical scrutiny and background verification of the identified users were conducted. No terror related links or adverse antecedents were found. No FIR has been registered in the matter.

As a preventive step, security proceedings were initiated against 10 individuals for violating the orders. Most of them belong to a younger age group. They were warned to strictly refrain from using unauthorized VPN services in the future.

Five of the identified users were minors. They were counselled in the presence of their guardians. Police stressed awareness, lawful digital conduct, and the legal consequences of violating official directives.

Shopian Police said they remain committed to enforcing lawful orders, preventing misuse of online platforms, and ensuring public safety and cyber security across the district.
