Shopian: The Department of Social Welfare Shopian today organized a series of events to commemorate a decade of the government’s flagship scheme, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP). The celebrations aimed to promote the importance of girl child education, protection, and empowerment.

The day-long program began with a seminar at the Conference Hall in Shopian, presided over by Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Shahid Saleem Dar. The seminar featured discussions on the significant achievements of the BBBP initiative and highlighted the government’s efforts to uplift and empower women.

In his address, DC Shahid Saleem emphasized breaking societal stereotypes and creating an inclusive environment for women’s emancipation. He detailed government initiatives aimed at alleviating the struggles of women and promoting their overall development.

Prominent speakers, including DDC members and women leaders from the education sector and SHEW, shed light on the transformative impact of the BBBP scheme and other women-centric initiatives.

As part of the celebrations, the Deputy Commissioner led a pledge-taking ceremony, with stakeholders committing to promote girls’ education and create a safe and supportive environment for them. A signature campaign was also launched to raise awareness about the importance of empowering girls through education.

The event concluded with a cycle rally and a felicitation ceremony for girl participants, serving as a testament to the ongoing efforts to inspire and uplift young girls in the district.

The celebrations highlighted the progress made in the last ten years while underscoring the need for continued efforts to address challenges in achieving gender equality and women’s empowerment.
