SHOPIAN: The District Administration Shopian today organised a series of public service and community engagement programmes at Borihallan to mark Gandhi Jayanti and the culmination of Sewa Parv.

Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Shishir Gupta, presided over the event, which saw enthusiastic participation from officers, civil society members, students, and the public. Among those present were SSP Shopian, Anayat Ali, ADDC Dr. Nasir Ahmed Lone, ADC Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz, and other senior officers of the district administration.

The programme began with a pledge ceremony where participants resolved to maintain cleanliness, adopt a plastic-free lifestyle, and uphold Gandhian values of simplicity, service, and community responsibility.

Speaking on the occasion, the DC Gupta stressed the importance of combating drug abuse under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, calling it a grave challenge for the youth. He appreciated the joint efforts of stakeholders in tackling the menace and urged for stronger community-level vigilance. He also underlined the role of cleanliness and people-oriented initiatives in strengthening bonds between the administration and citizens.

On the sidelines, the DC inspected facilitation counters and grievance redressal camps, where locals directly interacted with officers to resolve issues related to services, schemes, and developmental works.

The fortnight-long Sewa Parv in Shopian—marked by cleanliness drives, rallies, plantation campaigns, and welfare activities—concluded with today’s event. Cultural performances, skits on cleanliness and drug abuse by DIPR Shopian, Cultural Unit DIPR Kashmir, and school children further highlighted themes of patriotism, Swachhta, and drug-free living.

The event successfully blended the spirit of Gandhi Jayanti with awareness on cleanliness, anti-drug campaigns, and community service, reaffirming the district’s commitment to collective responsibility and responsive governance.
