SRINAGAR: As the holy month of Ramadan begins, people across Kashmir are extending warm wishes of “Ramadan Mubarak” and embracing the spirit of compassion, charity, and community support.
The first day of Ramadan traditionally marks an increase in acts of kindness, with many individuals contributing generously to those in need.
However, alongside the surge in charitable giving, it may be seen that there is a noticeable rise in fundraising stories circulating on various social media platforms. Numerous Private NGOs and social media pages have been sharing emotional videos and urgent appeals for financial assistance, encouraging donations through digital payment methods such as MPay, GPay, and UPI.
While Ramadan is a time when people are especially motivated to support humanitarian causes, concerns have emerged regarding the authenticity of some of these online appeals. Citizens are being urged to exercise caution and verify the credibility of fundraising campaigns before making contributions.
Community members are appealing to the public to confirm whether the stories being shared are genuine and to ensure that their donations are reaching the truly needy. There are growing worries that some campaigns may be fraudulent, potentially exploiting the generosity of donors during the holy month.
In light of these concerns, authorities are being requested to closely monitor such fundraising activities. It is being emphasized that proper checks should be conducted to determine whether Some Private NGOs and patients featured in fundraising posts genuinely require public financial support, and whether the full amount collected is being delivered to the intended beneficiaries.
As Ramadan continues, residents are encouraged to uphold the spirit of humanity and charity while remaining vigilant to prevent misuse of public trust and donation. (BAN)
