RAJOURI: Police in Rajouri district have registered two FIRs against individuals for allegedly violating the District Magistrate’s prohibitory order banning the use of Virtual Private Networks (VPNs), officials said on Monday.
Rajouri police said that the action was taken during routine naka checking in two police station jurisdictions.
At Manjakote, a police team apprehended a man identified as Mohd Nasar, son of Mohd Yakoob and a resident of Dheri Raylote, after he was found using a VPN application on his mobile phone. An FIR, No. 107/2025 under Section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), has been registered at Police Station Manjakote.
In a separate incident, Police Station Darhal registered FIR No. 73/2025 under Section 223 BNS against Mohd Mukhtar, 38, son of Mohd Taj and a resident of Madhoon Dodaj Rajouri, who was found in possession of a mobile phone with an active VPN application during naka checking, they added.
Police advised the general public to strictly comply with the District Magistrate’s order and refrain from using VPN services in violation of the restrictions. —(KNC)
