SHOPIAN: Continuing its efforts to curb illegal liquor trade, Shopian Police arrested one individual and seized 11 bottles of liquor during routine naka checking at Reshnagri.
According to a police statement, during the checking, the police party noticed a person carrying a bag in a suspicious manner. On seeing the police, he tried to flee from the spot but was tactfully apprehended.
Upon searching the bag, 11 bottles of whisky (750 ml each) were recovered. The arrested person has been identified as Alyas Ahmad Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Reshnagri.
“Accordingly, Case FIR No. 50/2025 under relevant provisions of the Excise Act has been registered at Police Station Heerpora, and investigation has been set into motion,” the statement said.
Police further urged citizens to come forward with any information regarding illegal liquor or drug trafficking in their respective areas. “Community cooperation is vital in our collective fight against this social evil,” the statement added.
