Srinagar: Er. Rasheed led Awami Ittehad Party (AIP) on Wednesday put to rest the rumours hinting at the party’s support to any other party or candidate in the upcoming parliamentary elections.

The party spokesperson Firdous Baba talking to Alfaaz – The Words, backing his statement issued earlier in the day, said that the party is not supporting anyone except for itself.

“We have announced our party supremo Er. Rasheed as our Baramulla constituency candidate several months before,” Baba said adding, “All the rumours doing rounds are absolutely baseless and concocted.”

“We being a party within constitutional ambit, believe in the judiciary of the country and are hopeful of Er. Rasheed’s release before the elections and if he still is not released, the constitution of our county allows us to contest while one is still in custody,” he said.

“There have been claims made by some parties, which only reflects their frustration even as it is their tactic to create confusion among the voters of their opponents”, he said.

“We strictly ask the media houses to refrain from any uncalled for statements unless verified from the party higher-ups,” Firdous said further.
