Nikah is highly significant in Islam and is considered as a vital institution with both spiritual and social implications. The prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said “ when a man marries, he had fulfilled half of his religion”, emphasizing the spiritual importance of marriage.
It is a legal contract between a man and a woman, outlining their rights and responsibilities and providing a framework for a stable family structure. Marriage in Islam promotes moral conduct, helps to prevent illicit relationships and provides a lawful means to fulfil one’s physical and emotional needs.
It is the foundation for building a family and is highly valued as it offers a stable environment for raising children.
Nikah fosters companionship ,love and mutual support between spouses, described in the Quran as a relationship of tranquility, love and mercy ( Quran 30:21).
Additionally it encourages responsibility and stability, benefiting both individuals and the broader community and serves as a means of earning Allah’s pleasure and rewards in this life and the hereafter. Thus Nikah encompasses legal, moral and spiritual dimensions, contributing significantly to the well being of individuals. When two people get married, they make a commitment to each other in front of their friends and family. They promise to be loyal, kind and patient with each other. Marriage is a beautiful journey where two people grow together, share their joys and sorrows, and build a life filled with love, respect and trust.
It is a special feeling to find someone who loves and accepts you for who you are, nikah is a celebration of love and a new beginning for the couple .
