SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar on Sunday evening issued a fresh nowcast predicting spells of rain and thundershowers over several parts of Jammu and Kashmir during the next few hours.

According to the forecast issued at 5:30 pm, generally cloudy weather with rain/thundershower is expected at many places including Kupwara, Handwara, Bandipora (including Gurez and Tulail), Ganderbal-Kangan-Sonamarg, Uri, Baramulla, and few parts of central and south Kashmir. Rain is also likely in some areas of Jammu, Reasi, and Samba districts.

The advisory further cautioned that many places in Kupwara, Handwara, Sopore, parts of Baramulla, and hilly regions of Bandipora and Ganderbal may experience moderate to intense rainfall accompanied by thunder, lightning, and gusty winds (30–40 kmph) during the next 1–2 hours.

The MeT Centre has also warned of the possibility of flash floods, landslides, and mudslides at vulnerable locations and urged people to stay away from streams, nallahs, and water channels.

Additionally, locals and tourists have been advised to suspend shikara rides and boating activities in Dal Lake and other water bodies for the next three hours as a precautionary measure.
