The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has instructed several states and Union Territories to conduct comprehensive civil defence mock drills on May 7 to assess the nation’s preparedness against hostile attacks according to Government of India sources, reports news agency ANI.

As per a post on X by ANI, the drills will focus on key areas critical for civil protection during emergencies. The following measures will be undertaken during the exercise:

  • 1. Operationalization of Air Raid Warning Sirens – to test early warning systems and ensure readiness in case of aerial threats.
  • 2. Civil Defence Training – civilians, including students and local volunteers, will be trained on protective measures during attacks.
  • 3. Crash Blackout Protocols – authorities will implement blackout procedures to reduce visibility to enemy surveillance.
  • 4. Camouflaging Vital Installations – mock drills will simulate camouflaging of key plants and infrastructure to avoid detection.
  • 5. Evacuation Plan Updates and Rehearsals – updated plans will be rehearsed to ensure swift and safe movement during emergencies.
