SRINAGAR: The Meteorological Department has forecast a spell of cloudy weather across Jammu and Kashmir from March 10 to March 12, with light rain expected in the plains and snowfall likely in higher reaches at several places.

According to the department, the weather is expected to remain mostly cloudy during the three-day period, with intermittent rainfall and snowfall affecting many parts of the Union Territory.

Officials said higher altitude areas of north and central Kashmir are likely to witness comparatively heavier snowfall. A few upper reaches of Kupwara, Bandipora, Ganderbal and Anantnag districts may receive moderate snowfall during the period.

The department said the snowfall in mountainous areas could temporarily affect movement on some higher passes and remote roads, although no major disruption has been predicted so far.

The MeT has also issued an advisory for farmers, urging them to suspend agricultural activities during the period to prevent potential losses due to rain and snowfall.

Officials further said a noticeable fall in daytime temperatures is expected across several areas of the Union Territory. Day temperatures may drop by around 4 to 6 degrees Celsius due to cloudy conditions and precipitation.

The dip in temperature could bring a brief spell of colder conditions, particularly in the Kashmir Valley and other high-altitude regions where snowfall is expected.

The department also warned that cloud cover and precipitation may reduce visibility in some areas, especially in mountainous regions during snowfall. Residents in higher altitude areas have been advised to remain cautious and follow local advisories, particularly while travelling in snow-prone areas. -(KL)
