Shopian: A joint team comprising officials from the Revenue Department, Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Food Safety, Drug Controller, Legal Metrology, and Police conducted a market-checking drive in Barbugh, Imamsahib, area of Shopian district to ensure compliance with quality and pricing regulations.

During the inspection, various establishments, including grocery stores, fruit vendors, restaurants, wholesalers, medical shops, and bakeries, were thoroughly checked on multiple parameters. Authorities imposed a fine of Rs 3,200 on shopkeepers found violating norms.

Additionally, a shop selling substandard and expired flour was seized on the spot, and around 10 kg of rotten vegetables and fruits were destroyed to prevent their sale to consumers.

The market-checking drive aimed to curb the sale of adulterated and substandard products while ensuring fair trade practices. Officials have warned traders and shopkeepers to adhere to prescribed guidelines, emphasizing that strict action will be taken against violators in the future.
