SHOPIAN: In the wake of the advisory issued by the Jammu and Kashmir Drug and Food Control Organisation (DFCO) banning several pediatric cough syrups declared “Not of Standard Quality,” Shopian Police, in collaboration with the Drug Control Department Shopian, carried out a joint inspection drive across the district on Tuesday.
The inspection aimed to ensure strict enforcement of the DFCO directive prohibiting the sale and storage of ColdRif Syrup, RespiFresh-TR Syrup, and Relif Syrup, which were recently found unsafe due to the presence of Diethylene Glycol (DEG) impurities exceeding permissible limits.
During the inspection, officials confirmed that none of the banned syrups were available in any medical store across Shopian. Pharmacists were also sensitized to strictly comply with the DFCO and Health Department guidelines and to refrain from selling or stocking the prohibited formulations.
A police spokesperson stated that Shopian Police remains dedicated to safeguarding public health and will continue to conduct regular inspection and awareness drives in close coordination with the Drug Control Department and other concerned agencies.
