Srinagar: In a significant political development ahead of polls in J&K, Apni Party chief Syed Muhammad Altaf Bukhari today announced full support to independent candidate Taj Mohiduin who is fighting polls from Uri, Baramulla district.
Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, Bukhari said that consolidation is a must in the upcoming polls. “We are extending full support to Taj Mohiudin in Uri. We will support the like-minded people wherever we feel so. This is very important for the larger interest of people of J&K,” Bukhari said.
He said Taj is a tall politician and “we feel delighted to support him in Uri.”
Bukhari’s open support to Taj Mohiudin comes days after he told reporters that Apni Party won’t support any party or candidate neither has it approached any political party for the support.
Replying to a query, Taj said he hasn’t informed Congress leader Rahul Gandhi about his decision. Taj was the former minister in NC-Congress government in J&K. He is a very prominent figure in Uri.
He was associated with Congress for a long time and recently switched to Ghulam Nabi Azad led Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DAP). He, has, however, parted ways from DPAP too and is contesting as independent candidate from Uri.
When asked whether he would join Apni Party or Congress if he wins from Uri, Taj said that “tab ki baat tab dekhaingay.” “Let me contest polls first and then I will see,” he said. Taj expressed his gratitude to Bukhari for extending him a helping hand in this hour. “It is the question of consolidation and there has to be a one to one fight,” he said. Taj said that PDP too has extended their support to me. “I am grateful to them as well,” Taj said. —(News Vibes of India)
