JAMMU: The Jammu and Kashmir government on Thursday confirmed that it purchased 133 luxury vehicles in the financial year 2024-25, asserting that the acquisitions were made strictly in line with prescribed norms.
In a written reply to BJP MLA Ranbir Singh Pathania, Transport Minister Satish Sharma stated that the State Motor Garages Department acquired 133 luxury vehicles in 2024-25, compared to 10 vehicles in 2023-24.
The Minister emphasised that there has been no deviation from procurement norms by government departments and public sector undertakings. He added that in specific cases, high-end vehicles were allowed through relaxation of norms, considering operational requirements, challenging terrains, and the nature of official duties.
Rejecting claims of additional burden on the public exchequer due to absence of prescribed makes or models, Minister Sharma said all vehicle purchases and spare parts procurement strictly follow the General Financial Rules (GFR). — (KNC)
