Srinagar: Candidacy of Sarjan Barkati and Abdul Bari Naik among over a dozen others, has been rejected in the ongoing scrutiny process on Phase-I of assembly elections.
Barkati and Bari, contesting independently from Zainapora and Devsar assembly segments respectively, were among a total of 280 candidates who had tendered their nomination to contest under the Phase-I of assembly elections, set to be held on September 18.
It is worth to mention here that more than 23.27 lakh voters which include11.76 lakh male voters and 11.51 lakh female voters and 60 Third Gender Electors are eligible to exercise their electoral franchise during the Phase-I of the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Election, scheduled to be held on 18 September 2024. 5.66 lakh youth voters are also eligible for voting.
The notification for the Phase-I was issued on 20 August, 2024 and the last date for filing the nominations for Phase-I was 27 August, 2024 till 3:00 pm.
