SRINAGAR: The High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh has decided not to cancel the bail granted to Waheed Ur Rahman Para, a prominent member of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and Youth President in a review of the appeal filed by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), which sought to challenge the bail order issued by the Special Judge, NIA, Jammu.

According to Srinagar based news gathering agency Kashmir Dot Com, the appeal filed by NIA challenged the granting of bail to Waheed Ur Rahman Para, who is accused in FIR No RC 01 of 2020 registered at NIA Jammu under Sections 120-B of the Indian Penal Code and various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.

The division bench, comprising Justice Puneet Gupta and Justice Rajesh Sekhri, as per Kashmir Dot Com, noted that since charges have been framed against Para following the filing of the appeal, the NIA’s appeal is no longer pursued.

Vishal Sharma learned counsel for the NIA submitted that the challan has filed and charges have already been framed against the Parra by the trail court after the appeal was filed, reads the order, adding that the appeal was not pressed by NIA in view of the fact.

The court granted the appellant (NIA) the liberty to apply for the cancellation of bail if necessary, emphasizing that any such application will be decided on its own merits and in accordance with the law.

Waheed Ur Rahman Para, who is a prominent political figure as the Youth President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a candidate for the upcoming assembly elections from Pulwama, had previously contested the Srinagar parliamentary seat in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
