SHOPIAN: Heavy snowfall across Shopian district has severely impacted drinking water supply, with nearly 80 percent of the 92 Water Supply Schemes affected due to heavy accumulation of snow at headworks, officials said.
The concerned department has swung into action, mobilizing men and machinery on a war footing to restore services. Restoration work is underway across the district, and as of now, around 70 percent of the affected schemes have been successfully restored, with normal water supply resumed in those areas.
Officials said that restoration of the remaining schemes is taking additional time due to tough challenges, especially in remote and snowbound locations where access to headworks remains difficult.
Despite these constraints, the department is making all-out efforts to ensure early restoration. Authorities expect that by tomorrow evening, almost all remaining water supply schemes will be restored and regular water supply will be fully normalized across Shopian district.
