New Delhi: National Conference leader and newly elected Rajya Sabha MP Chowdhary Mohammad Ramzan on Monday said that the elected government in Jammu and Kashmir has been left with “no powers”, asserting that all administrative authority continues to rest with the Lieutenant Governor.
Delivering his maiden address in the Upper House, Ramzan, according to news agency Kashmir Dot com, said that despite Assembly elections being held in October 2024 and a new government taking office, it was not being allowed to function independently.
He questioned the purpose of holding elections if the elected dispensation is not empowered to take decisions. “If the government has no powers to work, then what is the purpose of an elected government?” he asked.
The NC MP said the people of Jammu and Kashmir had given a strong mandate and expressed concern that elected representatives were still not in full control of governance and decision-making. (KDC)
